ANNUAL FAIR
A WORD FROM THE FAIR CHAIR
In 2021, the Mt. Washington Church Fair, like the Phoenix, rises from pandemic ashes. We’re recreating our traditional Fair, with primary concern for public health. Last year we morphed the 88 year-old Live Fair into a Virtual Fair through this website, created in 5 weeks by Sean Cotter. We kept the Fair tradition alive. The Virtual Fair made about $14,000. for the charities which we’ve supported for decades: a bit more than half our usual take, but miraculous in the circumstances.
Now, we return to a Live Fair. To protect our older friends, kids, our other guests, and ourselves, unvaccinated Fairgoers will be required to wear masks at all times, everywhere on the Fair grounds. We ask others to mask as they are able. Kids will mask at their parents’ discretion. Masks will be required for everyone in order to enter the Town Hall and the Church for the features in there. We’ll have masks available as well as hand sanitizing stations.
Our Fair ’21 main raffle item is the terrific “Retro ‘60s Memories” throw by Carol Green, pictured here. Buy chances for it on the site until noon, Fri., August 6, then live at the Fair on the 7th. No need to be present to win; we’ll ship the throw, on display at The Bookloft in Gt. Barrington until the 6th. You can also buy chances here until the 6th at noon, then live at the Fair, for our Hospitality Raffle, non-transferrable gift certificates to fine local restaurants.
The Silent Auction is back live, featuring, among other things, riding lessons; pet-sitting; and a painting by Morgan Bulkeley, pictured here. The Nature Art Table continues as star feature in our “Kids’ Neighborhood, ” but no kids’ face painting or Costume Corner this year. Hurray! Sandy and Sandy, well-known local musicians, will be with us again. An exciting addition: Roger the Juggling Jester and Andrew the Twister, balloon sculptor/magician, will entertain between 11-2.
Other of our old favorites return: Fab food (Food servers will be masked and gloved, except the guys cooking over the grills); Mt. Goods’ mountain-made goodies to take home; Mt. Washington t-shirts, aprons, hats, our new tea towels; the extraordinary White Elephant tent; 2nd Hand Rose’s amazing array of vintage duds; Arts/ Artisans’ elegant collection of hand-crafted items by “mountaineers;” Plants/Flowers’ botanical treasures.
So, hi, ho, come to the Fair! We look forward to seeing you and delighting you. Thanks for helping us support wonderful charities!
